i love the internet.
We will do anything not to feel the pain of this loss. We remain in the past, trying to negotiate our way out of the hurt.

Kelly Flegal: Felted SculpturesI am interested in how depictions of class and societal hierarchy define the individual both historically and in present day. I employ high craft through the process of needle felting into foam taxidermy forms, while the application of adornment exploits the forms as elite characters of an elevated class. Through the re-contextualization of traditional gaming forms and acquired skeletal remains, I aim to compel the viewer to formulate their own questions as to why individuals place emphasis on symbols of status, trophy and relic. Knowledge of such societal constructs can only continue to define our human experience.Kelly Flegal is prospective May 2012 graduate at Tyler School of Art, Temple University. She will be graduating with a Bachelor in Fine Arts, majoring in Fibers and Material Studies and minoring in Art History. Throughout her time at Tyler, she has been a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, was a Deans Grant recipient for a large scale needle felting project, and was chosen to be one of a select few students to exhibit a site specific installation during the Tyler School of Art’ 2012 Annual Student Show and NASAD review. Kelly has exhibited in numerous student and juried shows in both Philadelphia and Rome, such as Fiber Philadelphia’s Launch at Space 102 (2012), at the Circolo Degli Artisti Gallery in Rome, Italy (2010), and in the Tyler School of Art Annual Student Show (2009-2012).Her semester abroad with Temple University Rome afforded her a new perspective on Art History, with an emphasis on depictions of class and adornment within society portraiture. As an intern for Fiber Philadelphia 2012, she has had the opportunity to work and collaborate with distinguished members of her field. Kelly will be holding her BFA thesis show “Oh You Fancy, Huh?” at Always by Design Gallery in Philadelphia during April 2012.Felted SculpturesWall Mounted Head Form 1needle felted alpaca roving, glass eyes, coiled horns covered in wax, hand sewn ruffsWall Mounted Head Form 2needle felted alpaca roving, glass eyes, twined horns covered in wax, acrylic paint, hand sewn ruffsWall Mounted Head form 3needle felted steel wool, glass eyes, spray foam, mounted antlers, spray paint, hand sewn aluminum foilmy very talented friends beautiful work!!!!
